NEW YORK.- Photographs and prints are two auction categories currently blazing a trail through the highly fashionable world of 20th century art collecting. Christie’s is delighted to offer two sales in February that offer first-time buyers and seasoned modern and contemporary art-lovers alike the perfect opportunity to develop, strengthen – or even begin – a collection. With the emphasis on affordability and accessibility, estimates start in the mid-hundreds and both sales include works by such famous 20th century masters as Pablo Picasso, Ansel Adams, Andy Warhol and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Photographs take place Tuesday February 15. With bidders able to view the sales during the pre-sale exhibitions or online – and with commission bids able to be left at www.christies.com, as well as in person at the auction house – there has never been a better time for people considering purchasing a piece of fine art to come and visit the salerooms and begin their own auction-buying odyssey.
Over 450 lots will be featured in the sale, offering an excellent, wide-ranging selection of modern and contemporary American and European prints, with estimates ranging from $600 to $6,000. Works by Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Alberto Giacometti, Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso and Thomas Hart Benton are set to catch collectors’ attention.
