Gallery at 6th & 6th Presents Bohdan Osyczka "Monumental Watercolors II"
Bohdan Osyczka, “86 WN15” 1986 watercolor on paper; 45 x 44 inches.
TUCSON, AZ.- The Gallery at 6th & 6th presents Bohdan Osyczka, “Monumental Watercolors II,” large, abstract watercolors by a master of the medium on view through April 19, 2008. The sheer visual power of 86 year-old Bohdan Osyczka's watercolors are a revelation to those who still think of the medium as "minor." With the help of specially-made papers and a custom designed tilting worktable, these mammoth works burst with color and vibrancy. Although clearly related to the color-field paintings of his generation, to Osyczka the works have more in common with performance art. The audacity, gesture and exuberance of the paintings reflect the artist's efforts to produce them: rolling, pitching, pouring, speckling and spattering paint, they are a tour-de-force of artistic energy.

This January, the Gallery at 6th & 6th brought Bohdan Osyczka’s watercolors to an art fair in London , where thousands of viewers were introduced to, and enthralled by, the work. The Brooklyn Museum of Art ( New York ), is currently acquiring one of Osyczka’s paintings, and will hang it in the American gallery next to the Georgia O’Keefe watercolors.
