2008 West Michigan Area Show Seeks Entries from Regional Artists
KALAMAZOO, MI.-The annual West Michigan Area Show will be on exhibit at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts July 12-August 23, and regional artists are again invited to take part.

This juried competition is open to artists living in the following Michigan counties: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Eaton, Ionia, Kalamazoo, Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, St. Joseph and Van Buren. Artists must be 18 years of age or older to enter.

Entries must be hand-delivered to the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts between Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 8.

This year’s guest juror is artist Susanna Coffey, who teaches painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Coffey earned her BFA (magna cum laude) from the University of Connecticut, and MFA from the Yale University School of Art. Her work has been shown in museum and gallery exhibitions in Spain, South Korea, and throughout the United States, and is part of numerous public and private collections. Coffey will be one of 25 artists whose work makes up the KIA exhibition The Figure Revealed: Contemporary American Figurative Paintings and Drawings (May 3-June 29).

Eligible works for the Area Show include those of any medium in a two- or three-dimensional format. All works must have been completed within the last two years. Each artist may submit no more than two works with a non-refundable entry fee of $15 per work.

Cash prizes of $100 to $1,000 are awarded to the juror’s selection of the top five works. The competition also includes purchase prizes and named awards for works in specific media.

A complete entry form is available by visiting the KIA, by calling (269) 349-7775, or on the KIA website at www.kiarts.org/museum/exhibitions.shtml
