NEW YORK.- The May 1 and 2 sale of Prints is distinguished by a strong selection of important works from private and institutional collections. Approximately 540 works are estimated to sell for $9.6/13.2 million and will be on exhibition at Sotheby’s New York’s 3rd floor galleries from April 27th through April 30th.

Property from The Estate of Catherine Gamble Curran includes Edgar Degas’ beguiling full portrait Mary Cassatt at the Louvre: The Paintings Gallery (est. $400/500,000); two iconic images by Mary Cassatt, The Fitting (est. $125/150,000) and In the Omnibus (est. $60/80,000); and the haunting figure within Wasssily Kandinsky’s 1903 woodcut Dame mit Facher (est. $70/90,000).

Additional property from Private American Collections includes Pablo Picasso’s Taureau et Picador, a rincée, an impression with extensive hand additions in ink (est. $200/300,000, pictured on page 1); a beautiful large scale Jasper Johns monotype Primaries with Secondaries (Variant) (est. $500/600,000); the complete set of Andy Warhol’s iconic portfolio, Campbell’s Soup I (portfolio of 10 prints, est. $250/350,000, pictured at right); and Richard Diebenkorn’s beautiful 1982 aquatint High Green, Version I (est. $150/200,000).

Sotheby’s is also thrilled to present Edvard Munch’s Madonna, a rare example of the 1895 lithograph without the sperm border (est. $600/800,000, pictured at left). And finally, this spring an American Academic Institution will de-accession a fine group of woodcuts by Blanche Lazell, various images executed in the first half of the 20th Century and ranging in value from $18,000-40,000.
