CUENCA.- Caja Castilla-La Mancha has given the work "Suaire" to the Antonio Saura Foundation. The work is on view beginning today at the Casa Zavala. The work was painted in 1963 and measures 130 by 97 cm and its price could be around 350,000 euros.
María Ángeles Saura, president of the foundation and sister of the artist stated that this was one of the artist’s favorite works and that the painter wanted it to be in Cuenca. This is the reason it was sold to the bank.
The foundation’s president as well as other authorities involved made it clear that after a long time and legal problems, the foundation has prevailed.
María Ángeles Saura reminded everyone that they will pay homage to her brother in September, and that the foundation will continue to work to finish the museum that Saura thought of. The foundation has around 60 original works so far, but the artist’s daughter said they will have more news in September.
María Ángeles Saura explained that the event will take place in September to celebrate the artist’s birth, even though this past July 22nd it was the tenth anniversary of his death. She said that the artist would not have liked anyone to celebrate his death.
