NEW YORK, NY.- On December 15, Christie's will offer the Lindemann Collection, one of the most exceptional private collections of 20th century French design, Art Deco furniture and objets d’art, to come to the market. The Lindemann Collection comprises iconic works by the most important and successful Art Deco designers and key works from the 1940’s. The sale will include furniture and objects from Mr. and Mrs. Lindemann’s home in Palm Beach that was designed by renowned architect, Peter Marino. The 54 works that make up this collection will provide the rare opportunity to acquire a range of works by the finest Art Deco designers including sublime pieces by designers Eugène Printz, Claude Lalanne, Paul Dupré Lafon, Line Vautrin, among others. The entire collection is expected to realize between $3.5- 5.4 million.
Among the highlights is a remarkable parchment, mahogany, leather and gilt bronze desk by Paul Dupré-Lafon, from the 1940s (estimate: $400,000-600,000). A masterwork of artistry and craftsmanship, the desk top inset has two macassary ebony lined compartments with sliding covers. The desk is accompanied by a leather upholstered stained wood and brass swivelling desk chair. Also by Dupré-Lafon is a stained oak and patinated bronze low table, containing a top inset exquisitely decorated with glass and gold leaf on the underside (estimate: $300,000-500,000).
The sale also presents a strong selection of works by Eugène Printz. The range and quality of his work is well demonstrated in the collection through top quality pieces that include a pair of oxidized brass and ebonized wood settees (estimate: $250,000-350,000), two pairs of leather upholstered walnut lounge chairs (estimate for each pair: $100,000-150,000), a double-sided oxidized brass and palmwood low table (estimate: $60,000-80,000), and a unique walnut folding side table (estimate: $40,000-60,000).
This group is complemented by a pair of patinated bronze and leather stools in the neo Egyptian style (estimate: $80,000-120,000) by Marc du Plantier. The Parisian artist Line Vautrin is represented by an extraordinary ‘Roi Soleil’ mirror, a convex glass mirror made of talosel resin from circa 1950 (estimate: $80,000-120,000), and by, two pairs of `Ananas' table lamps also made of talosel resin and glass, from circa 1960 (estimate for each pair: $60,000-90,000).
The works of Claude Lalanne are coveted for their botanical-inspired and innovative designs, and this sale presents collectors with an opportunity to acquire her splendid `Mobilier Gingko', a patinated bronze table and six chairs, designed in 2005 (estimate: $200,000-300,000) – chairs and table. Another notable highlight is an elegant caned giltwood armchair by Armand Albert Rateau from the 1920’s (estimate: 30,000-50,000), of which a similar model was designed by Rateau for the dining room of fashion designer Jeanne Lanvin.
