Collection of Picasso Plates, Francis Bacon Self Portraits, and Images of Lucian Freud at Bonhams
Picasso Plate.
LONDON.- Bonhams sale of Prints on July 14 in New Bond Street highlights a single owner collection of 12 ceramic plates and jugs by Picasso in muted colours ranging in price from £1,000 to £6,000.

Alongside Picasso’s ceramics there are also 11 pictures by the artist which range in price from £500 to £10,000. A portrait of Jaqueline, a lithograph from 1956 is estimated to sell for £7,000 to £10,000.

The portrait of Lucian Freud is a trial proof for the series “Six Etchings of Heads 1980-1981” created by Frank Helmut Auerbach and is estimated to sell for between £4,000-6,000.

The sale will also feature a collection of lithographs by Francis Bacon including a self portrait triptych. The lots range in value from £1,500-12,000.

Picasso ceramics
In 1946 Picasso visited the annual potter’s exhibition in Vallauris in the South of France, near Cannes. The Madoura stall was of particular interest and he met the owners – Suzanne and George Ramié, who invited him to their workshop. So began a fruitful working relationship. They set aside a studio for Picasso who made several ceramics. These were then produced in editions, either by the exact repetition of the plaster and decoration, or by using clay moulds to take an impression from the original. These two methods together are known as ‘Editions Picasso’. The second one is referred to as ‘Empreinte Originale de Picasso’ and these stamps appear on each work produced.

Faces in various poses and bullfighting are recurring themes in Picasso’s prints and ceramics, both of which are represented in the sale.
