The Americas Collection to Show Picasso Suite Entitled Imaginary Portraits
The gallery will showcase works of Pablo Picasso courtesy of the Ortiz-Gurdian Family Collection.
CORAL GABLES, FL.- On July 9th, the Americas Collection will present the complete collection of twenty-nine lithographs from the Suite entitled Imaginary Portraits by Pablo Picasso. This exhibition will be on display for cultural and educational purposes only. After a two week presentation at The Americas Collection, the show will embark on a two year traveling exhibition around Central and South America.

The gallery will showcase works of Pablo Picasso courtesy of the Ortiz-Gurdian Family Collection. Mr. & Mrs. Ramiro Ortiz are the founders and owners of The Americas Collection and The Ortiz-Gurdian Foundation, a not for profit organization in Nicaragua. As a tribute to their friends, clients, and the cities of Coral Gables and Miami, Mr. and Mrs. Ortiz are honored to share with the public their love for the arts and their support for the cultural enrichment of the local community.

The Ortiz-Gurdian Foundation was created in 1996 with the purpose of diffusing and promoting the visual arts in Central America. This organization has sponsored the various biennials that have taken place in this region for the past 12 years. In 2002, parallel to their art program, the Ortiz-Gurdian Family expanded their commitment to their community by creating the Breast Cancer Program for low income women of Nicaragua. This health program currently saves the lives of approximately 600 women each year.

The Americas Collection is another institution close to Mr. and Mrs. Ortiz's hearts. Moved by the same love that made The Ortiz-Gurdian Foundation possible, The Americas Collection has dedicated 18 years to the enhancement of Latin American art.

On July 9th, the gallery will present the complete collection of twenty-nine lithographs from the Suite entitled Imaginary Portraits by Pablo Picasso. This exhibition will be on display for cultural and educational purposes only. After a two week presentation at The Americas Collection, the show will embark on a two year traveling exhibition around Central and South America.

This special evening will be accompanied by lectures from two of the most respected persons in the Miami art community, the Director and Chief Curator of the Frost Art Museum, Dr. Carol Damian, and the art critic for El Nuevo Herald, Mr. Carlos Luis. The lectures are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

This exhibition will be the last presentation at the gallery's 2440 Ponce de Leon location. Beginning August 1st, The Americas Collection will continue its exhibitions at 214 Andalusia Avenue in Coral Gables - across the street from its former location.
