KANSAS CITY, MO.- For the first time The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is collaborating with Quixotic Performance Ensemble to present a dramatic, site-specific installation. On Sept. 12, Quixotic: Surface will provide attendees with an interactive, multi-sensory artistic experience.

This highly talented group of musicians, dancers, aerialists, composers, designers and choreographers will collaborate to provide an original production inspired by the art and architecture of the 1933 building and world-acclaimed Bloch Building. Eighty percent of the music is being composed specifically for this performance.

“The Nelson-Atkins is very excited about our collaboration with Quixotic, one of Kansas City’s most imaginative arts groups,” said Jan Schall, Sanders Sosland Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art. “Quixotic creates ethereal, multi-sensory performances. Their site-specific, nighttime performance at the Museum will activate both the white interior geometries and the illuminated glass exterior of our innovative Bloch Building. What a beautiful tribute to the creative spirit!”

Founded in Kansas City in 2004, Quixotic is the brainchild of Anthony Magliano, sound designer and visual artist, and Keelan Whitmore, ballet dancer and choreographer. The ensemble has created other site-specific performances at Moulin Bloom-Kansas City Free Health Clinic and the Kansas City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau 2009 annual luncheon.

Events begin at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 with a members-only twilight stroll featuring vignettes of dancers and musicians stationed around the Bloch Building. The free, grand finale public performance begins at 9 p.m. Cash bars available with discounts for members.
