LOS ANGELES, CA.- International auctioneersBonhams & Butterfields, will hold the January 17, 2010 Sunset Estate Auction in Los Angeles. Named for the famed Boulevard on which the auctioneer's Los Angeles galleries reside, the monthly Sunset Estate Auctions have become a reliable resource - delivering great design, diverse style and inspiration. Style on Sunset offers buyers an affordable avenue to a chic lifestyle while featuring pieces from the 16th Century, Spanish Baroque, Georgian and Louis XIV to 20th century modern periods and the present day.

The January auction will highlight property from a variety of estates and private collections including Doris Duke and spiritual leader JZ Knight as well as an exciting selection of cutting edge contemporary art from the Collection of Monica Bain, Los Angeles, California.

Monica Bain was an artist and avid connoisseur who possessed a discerning collecting eye and often purchased works directly from noted artists and galleries. Her patronage included Lita Albuquerque, Jerrold Ballaine, LA Louver, Jim Dine, Garth Clark, Tom Lieber, Cirrus, Tourture, Space and James Corcoran, among others.

Highlights on offer from the Bain Collection will include a mixed media collage on illustration board titled Rollerskate Game #1, 1963, by Jerrold Ballaine (est. $800-1,000); a colorful screenprint titled 8 Hearts, 1970, by Jim Dine (est. $500-700) as well as works by Carlos Almaraz, Laddie John Dill, Kazuko Matthews, Shirley Pettibone, Robert Rauschenberg, Anna Silver and Don Suggs.

In addition to the Collection of Monica Bain, the January auction also boasts a strong selection of Continental furniture and decorations from the 18th through 20th centuries including examples from Lalique, Steuben and Tiffany. Work from all periods and styles will be presented in the inaugural sale along with items from private estates throughout the Southwestern United States as well as a strong selection of American Federal, Arts and Crafts and Asian works of art, including silver, rugs and books.

Additional highlights from the January Sunset Estate auction include a glazed earthenware piece titled Low Bowl by Beatrice Wood (est. $400-600); a Rene Lalique opalescent molded Espalion vase (est. $ 500 - 800) and a pair of Rococo style parcel silvered and paint decorated commodes from the Collection of JZ Knight (est. $ 2,500 - 3,500).
