NEW ORLEANS, LA.- The Ogden Museum of Southern Art /University of New Orleans announces staff changes at the Museum. As of Jan. 4, 2009, Lisa McCaffety, the Museum’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, and David Houston, Museum’s Chief Curator, will also take on the responsibilities of Co-Directors of the Museum. Madeleine Molyneux is filling a new position as Curator of Film.
A native of South Carolina, David Houston joined the staff of the Ogden Museum as the Chief Curator in 2001. Prior to joining the Ogden staff, Houston was a faculty member of the College of Art, Architecture and Humanity at Clemson University, where he taught art and architectural history and was the Director of the Rudolph E. Lee Gallery. While at Clemson, he was also Co-Director of an international nature-based site-specific sculpture program in the South Carolina Botanical Garden, and was the Director of the ArtParternerships Program, a program which commissioned contemporary artists to create permanent, site-specific works across the University campus. In 1997, he was a Visiting Professor at the Brandenburg Technical University in Germany, an appointment which lead to continued collaborations between the BTU and several American Universities, including the University of New Orleans.
As Chief Curator of the Ogden Museum, Houston has organized a wide range of exhibitions and programs focused on the American South, and will also continue as the museum’s Chief Curator. Houston regularly lectures and publishes in the fields of modern and contemporary art, architecture, design and Southern craft traditions. His recent publications include: “Let There Be Light: The Paintings of Kendall Shaw”; “An Interview With Carlos Estevez”; IDOMENEE Magazine, Paris; and “Can Prague Learn from L.A.? Frank Gehry’s Netherland’s National Building in Paris,” in Over the Wall After The Fall (University of Indiana Press).
Lisa McCaffety relocated to New Orleans from Houston, Texas, in July 2009, to take the position of COO/CFO of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. She was employed by Rice University for nine years, serving the last five years at the university’s James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy, where she served as financial director. McCaffety is a graduate of Rice University (1993) with a degree in music, and brings her love of the arts and knowledge of nonprofit finance and operations to the Ogden Museum.
Madeleine Molyneaux is the series producer of the Museum’s The Art of Southern Film: Established Masters and Emerging Makers and its Curator of Film, a new position at the Museum. She is an independent curator, film festival programmer and scout, critic, and creative producer based in New York and New Orleans. Through Picture Palace Pictures, she develops and produces films, videos and visual art projects that often defy easy categorization and are often defined as “hybrid” narratives. She develops primarily for writers/directors who work in the realm of fiction, experimental cinema and creative documentary. Molyneaux is the U.S. programmer for the Festival du Nouveau Cinema in Montreal (FNC), Montreal’s oldest and most prestigious festival devoted to the discovery and exhibition of daring and innovative cinema. She holds a bachelor of arts in History (High Honors and Distinction) from the University of California, Berkeley.
