NEW YORK, NY.- To celebrate the close of the Guggenheim's 50th Anniversary year on May 14, 2010, the museum announces a new online competition inviting participants to reimagine the museum's iconic rotunda and submit their ideas via the image-sharing site Flickr.

The competition, entitled Re: Contemplating the Void—Create Your Own Guggenheim Intervention, corresponds to the current exhibition "Contemplating the Void: Interventions in the Guggenheim", in which the Guggenheim Museum invited nearly two hundred artists, architects, and designers to imagine their dream interventions in the rotunda space. Taking place from April 16, 2010, to May 14, 2010, the competition allows participants to submit a hand sketch, computer rendering, watercolor, painting, photo collage, or any 2-D format that communicates their ideas effectively. Participants are encouraged to be truly creative and submit ideas that capture the full potential of the Guggenheim's rotunda.

Nancy Spector, Deputy Director and Chief Curator, and David van der Leer, Assistant Curator for Architecture and Design, will select five winners who will be announced on June 1, 2010, on Guggenheim.org. Each winner will also receive a Guggenheim Store gift package including an interior-printed skylight tote, a Fisheye camera, The Guggenheim: Frank Lloyd Wright and the Making of the Modern Museum, and two admission tickets to the Guggenheim Museum.

To enter, participants should upload their design or a photograph of their design to the competition's Flickr group. Please note that participants must register for a Flickr account and join this group if they would like to upload their submission.
