SANTO DOMINGO.- On 20th July, the 500 year old Quinta Dominica will present the Photographic Exhibition, Digital Art "Blue Dreams" by Mariojosé Angeles, artist from the Dominican Republic with an international career.

"In 1991, Mariojosé adopts the Umbrella as a symbol, translated into signs, poetry, speech and recipient of his stylistic, technical, esthetic and conceptual speculations. The Umbrella developed into his hands. It was converted into a metaphore with a symbolic and subtle resonance : it went as far as proposing visual names close to geometry in time, space and the object in his work" by Abil Peralta, Poet, Essayist and Art Critic, Santo Domingo.

With reference to his photographic work, the artist says : "The photographic experiment that we have been going through for the past ten years is nearing its origin. The pupils are open and receptive to the signals that are captured by our mental archive which already defines the various degrees of beauty, colour schemes, contrast and incandescance that irradiate bodies and objects. A magical world and a surrealist language which attract us and bring us to modern and contemporary images caught in the depth of a dark camera later transformed and worked upon by computer technology.

"Mariojosé Angeles, a multimedia artist, is also much more than a painter. Since he was trained as an architect, he is very sensitive to the three dimensional. The umbrella theme, shelter and protection, is a spot of colour and a benchmark which lightens up compositions made up for real encounters and sharing. Since this is precisely the essential aspect of his work : this creative impulse which brings the artist to become a citizen of the world united in unanimous integration of values and signs from everywhere and always" by Pierre-Jean Foulon, Curator of the Royal Museum of Mariemont, Belgium.

Quinta Dominicana is a house dating back to the beginning of the 16th century, built in Santo Domingo de Guzman, the most ancient city of the New World. From its origin, the house was part of the Dominican Convent's Monastery and later became conference halls for Saint Thomas de Aquino University, first university of the new continent.

This house was bought in 1994, the intention being to recover a valuable historical building, thus marking the beginning of an ambitious project dedicated to support the cultural, historical, artistic and educational fields, and by so doing becoming an instrument of society's integral growth and development.

Mariojosé works simultaneously in various disciplines : painting, photography, installation, sculpture, digital art and graphic design. From 2000 to 2004, he was Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of the Dominican Republic with the Kingdom of Belgium, the Netherlands and the European Union. He lived for 9 years in Brussels and presented his work in important collective and individual exhibitions in various European countries. Now he lives and works in the Dominican Republic.
