KASSEL.- dOCUMENTA (13) opened its doors to the public on the 9th of June 2012, exhibiting artworks by over 180 artists and engaging many more participants in public programs for a period of 100 days.

On Saturday, July 28, 2012, marking the 50th day and mid-point of the 13th edition of documenta, visitor numbers reached 378,000—more than half of the 751,000 visitors who attended the most recent documenta in 2007.

The 100-day season tickets have also proved extremely popular. Earlier this week, on the 44th day of the exhibition, dOCUMENTA (13) sold the 10,000th season ticket (70% more than during the entire run time in 2007, which saw 5901 season tickets sold in total).

Bernd Leifeld, Chief Executive Officer of documenta und Museum Fridericianum Veranstaltungs-GmbH stated, "Our goal remains to have 751,001 visitors. Visitor numbers are important to the management and at this halfway point we are highly satisfied with attendance at dOCUMENTA (13). It is, however, the rigour and quality of the exhibition that is of most importance to us. The 13th edition of documenta once again achieves the highest of benchmarks, and underpins this institution as setting the standard of how people contemplate contemporary art."

Artistic Director Carolyn Christov-Bakagriev said, "I am very pleased with how visitors from Germany and from the entire world are enjoying dOCUMENTA (13), and leisurely visiting its many venues and artworks all over Kassel, from the old Bahnhof to the far reaches of the Karlsaue park. Many start with the "Brain" in the Fridericianum, the core of the project, and end up in the small houses in the park, or at a lecture or philosophy seminar in the Standehaus, or at a film in the Gloria cinema in the evening. Many come back several times and feel embodied, grounded and at home in the exhibition which is both a sensual/perceptual experience and an intellectual one for them."

To mark the 50th day, the final volume of the three-volume dOCUMENTA (13) catalog will be released. The Logbook is a richly illustrated publication that records the making of dOCUMENTA (13). Photographs, continuously taken during the preparations, provide a very private insight into the Artistic Director’s approach and methodology, allowing the reader to accompany her on her journeys.
