BARI.- The four artists in the exhibition have been asked to the interpret the notion of chaos through their artistic practices. If we were to classify them, we would need to create an order, but order, by definition, is whatever we do not call chaos, and chaos is whatever is not orderly. These artists propose a work of distruction. They are brave and daring. They do not just reproduce the reality in the way it should be, they decompose it and give it a new structure, make it clearer and they do not necessarily put an order to what is not orderly.
Daring is the choice to use geometrical figures, material and order to express disorder. In their works, the chaotic condition which differentiates them so much shows how much they have in common. Daniela Corbascio works through her childhood reminscences, recovering the material, the wood, worked by the time, in which a luminous point stands out, her personal order in the chaos of memory. An installation suspended, which is trying to excape the space boundaries, as it did with the time, and find refuge in the disorder. The artist takes inspiration from the past and reproposes it in the present; she takes and puts back to where it came from, she adds, she takes away and empties in order to leave an opportunity for the viewer to fill the space with its own memory. Luigi Giandonato’s works are striking in the white tidiness of the Murat hall. He has created three big paintings that astonish and fascinate viewers. Overwelmed by colours and infinite geometries, Giandonato draws his chaotic world (order) impossible to be seen by an inexperienced eye. At first sight, the paintings look like a ‘tangle’ difficult to unravel, but getting closer, in the details, it is possible to find a mental and geometric order. The paintings communicate with the installations in a dialogue where the viewer is involved and unconsciously forced to take part.
A further turmoil is created by the very young Dutch artist Berdnault Smilde and the Swiss Zimoun.
The first one contrasts with the majestic and with the material of Corbascio and Giandonato’s works, presenting a work that represents the total dematerialisation of artwork and nature. He has created an indoor cloud to represent how ephemeral the concept of art could be nowadays. It may be exactly this the big thruth that shocks the viewers, confusing their minds and the few certainties they had matured about art to this day. It is the chaos that predominantly takes place in the hydrometeor formed by tiny water parts and ice crystal hanging in the athmosphere which composes this work of art for only 10 seconds.
The shows closes with a towering work by the swiss Zimoun.
A five meters wall is built to delimit this space so chaotical and orderly, so linear and “tidy” which little has in common with the Murat hall. A white plywood wall, on which 125 motors are in movement without any order or any sign of wanting to stop. Arhythmically, in a chaotic noise, which goes hand in hand with the other silent works on display.
The "A Chaos Theory" exhibition opened the doors on Monday the 18th of June at the sala Murat in Bari (Italy).
The exhibition will be there until the 4th of July 2012, from Tuesday to Sunday, h 19-22.
