The Other New York: Community-wide exhibition opens to the public
Everson Anneka Herre, Syracuse, NY.
SYRACUSE, NY.- The Everson Museum of Art, along with all “The Other New York: 2012” (TONY: 2012) partners, iannounced the exhibition schedule for this unprecedented community-wide, multi-venue contemporary art exhibition.

“TONY: 2012 is the result of a major collaboration among 14 art institutions and cultural organizations in Syracuse that aims to highlight the rich talent of artists across Upstate New York and the surrounding region,” said Debora Ryan, Everson senior curator and project organizer. “The project brings together diverse arts, culture and heritage venues with outdoor public spaces for contemporary creative expression not before seen in Syracuse.”

“TONY: 2012 builds on the success of the Everson Biennial, which has been presented since 1974,” said Steven Kern, Everson executive director.

The curatorial team made up of professionals from each venue selected 63 artists from 235 submissions. The artists, all currently living in New York State (outside the New York City metropolitan area) present a broad range of artistic practices including painting, photography, print, glass, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media installation. Visitors are encouraged to explore the variety of art experiences offered at each venue, including two temporary pop-up installations in the form of freight containers located in Columbus Circle and the corner of Erie Boulevard and Oswego Street.

TONY: 2012 is organized by the Everson Museum of Art in collaboration with ArtRage—The Norton Putter Gallery, Community Folk Art Center, Erie Canal Museum, Light Work, Onondaga Historical Association, Punto de Contacto/Point of Contact, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, SUArt Galleries, Urban Video Project, The Warehouse Gallery, City of Syracuse and XL Projects.
