Statue Of Khafre
The statue of Egyptian King Khafre, 4th dynasty (c. 2575-c 2465 BC) is sculpted of diorite, a rock taken from a remote quarry in the Nubian Desert. Khafre was builder of the second of the three Pyramids of Giza. He was son of King Khufu and was known to have married Meresankh III, his sister Khamerernebti and may have had other wives. His pyramid is almost as grandiose as the Great Pyramid of his father. The causeway that links Khafre’s valley temple to the pyramid is made of great monolithic blocks of granite and contained the remarkable statues of the king. Many consider the Great Sphinx, located near Khafre’s causeway, to be carved in his likeness.
