Thinker
The piece "The Thinker" (1904) by French sculptor Auguste Rodin is a large bronze cast statue (79 x 51 x 55 inches). It is a representation of an Ugolino eating his fist and was made as part of the series of statues for Rodin’s realization of "Hell’s Door", inspired by Danté. Rodin, like Michelangelo, is known for leaving parts of his sculpture unfinished, as seen in "The Thinker’s" base. On April 21, 1906, a casting of the statue was erected at the Panthéon but it was thought the sculpture was not "in scale" with the building. It was removed and taken to the Rodin Museum in 1922. Another casting of the statue is located at Rodin’s tomb in Meudon.
