RAMALLAH.- Palestinian sculptor and painter Jawad Ibrahim works on a sculpture at his workshop in the West Bank city of Ramallah. The 52-year-old artist from Jenin has dedicated several of his works to the Palestinian intifada. Ibrahim, who has been arrested by the Israeli authorities three times without specific charges, took part in exhibitions in several countries outside the Palestinian territories, including the United States, Japan and Morocco.

“I am an artist, but first of all I am a human being and I cannot separate the tragedy that surrounds me from my work,” stated Jawad Ibrahim.

His home in downtown Ramallah is an art gallery and a comfortable prison. The artist is prohibited from leaving the city.
