New Paintings by Victor Rodriguez
Victor Rodriguez, Weeping Woman (detail), 2005, acrylic on canvas.
BOCA RATON, FLORIDA.-The Boca Raton Museum of Art presents New Paintings by Victor Rodriguez, on view through October 9, 2005. The new wave of “hard-hitting, in your face” art, is perfectly reflected in the hyperrealist works of Victor Rodriguez. Although it has been said that his work takes on the conventions of advertising, Victor Rodriguez often refers to art historical sources in billboard-scale paintings that render the detail and optical effects of the photographs he employs as their basis. The subjects are frequently family, friends, and the artist himself. Rodriguez was born in Mexico City in 1970. He has exhibited extensively in Mexico, Spain, France and the U. S. In 1992, he was awarded First Prize in the XI Rufino Tamayo Biennial, Mexico City. Presently, he lives and works in Brooklyn.
