WATERVILLE, ME.- The Colby College Museum of Art announces the launch of its new Web Kiosk, a searchable online database. The kiosk features information about more than 6,000 objects from the permanent collection, almost 2,500 of which include digital images. Highlights include the majority of works from The Alex Katz Collection, The Lunder Collection (including the Whistler and Colville Collections), The John Marin Collection and the Terry Winters Collection.

The online database allows the museum to greatly expand its viewing population—from local to international audiences. Visitors can explore the depth of individual collections beyond what is possible during just one museum visit. Visitors will be able to examine works that are in storage or that are otherwise not currently on display. One of the many dynamic features, a zoom tool, allows users to study individual works in great detail.

"This tool will enrich the experience of scholars, teachers and members of the general public," said the museum's Mirken Curator of Education Lauren Lessing. "I hope it will encourage greater visitation to the museum, foster scholarly discussions around the collection and help teachers prepare students for field trips."

The kiosk is part of the museum's recently redesigned Web site, which contains information on exhibitions, public programs and events, educational resources, membership information and press releases. The new Web site allows visitors to schedule a visit, become a member, and to preview upcoming exhibitions and museum events. The site also includes an archive of past exhibitions and events.
