Santa Monica Art Studios Announces 5th Anniversary Celebrations
SANTA MONICA, CA.- Directors of Santa Monica Art Studios Yossi Govrin and Sherry Frumkin announced the 5th Anniversary Celebration of their project of artist studios and exhibition space in an historic 22,000 square foot hangar at 3026 Airport Avenue in the Santa Monica Airport on Saturday, October 17th from 6 to 9 pm and Sunday, October 18th from 1 to 5 pm. More than 30 painters, printmakers, photographers, sculptors and mixed media artists will open their studios for the event.

Artists include: Melinda Smith Altshuler, Janet Bothne, Gregg Chadwick, Inge Dehenin, Lola del Fresno, Wendy Edlen, Suzanne Erickson, Karen Florek, Mitchell Friedman, John Goetz, Judith Golden, Yossi Govrin, Rachel Grynberg, Sally Lamb, David Leeds, Maddy Le Mel, Luigia Martelloni, Rachael McCampbell, Christine McLaughlin, Sylvia Moss, Jackie Nach, Sabine Pearlman, Kathy Peck, Ellie Riley, Richard Rogg, Linda Salzman, Gwen Samuels, Doni Silver Simons, Sossie Vanek, Julie Weiss, Karen V. Woo, Rimi Yang, Helen Youngblood and Rodd Zinberg.

Also at Santa Monica Art Studios:

During the anniversary event, Arena 1 will host Cautionary Tales curated by Berenika Boberska. Past exhibitions have been curated by Julie Lazar, Malik Gaines, Bruria Finkel, Heather Harmon, Mark Carter, among others and have featured the works of promising local artists as well as those from China, Korea, Australia and other important international art centers. In support of local artists, Santa Monica Art Studios has hosted exhibitions of the MFA graduates from Claremont and Laguna College of Art and Design, graduates from the Santa Monica College Art Mentors Program and Los Angeles County High School for the Arts in the gallery.

Sherry Frumkin Gallery, co-founder of the studios, will present a solo exhibition of new work by Dan Mills entitled US Future States ATLAS: an ATLAS of Global Imperialism.

The studio of Yossi Govrin, an artist with more than two decades of experience running artist studios in Santa Monica, originally conceived the project as a way to address the loss of affordable studios in Santa Monica and developed the hangar with co-director Sherry Frumkin.

North and South Hangar Galleries, affordable rental exhibition spaces that provide opportunities for artists outside the project to show work in a professional setting. More than 10 additional artists will have work on view during the open house.
