LONDON.- Frieze Film is a programme of artist films screened to coincide with Frieze Art Fair. This year it is curated by Sarah McCrory and includes five newly commissioned films that will be shown in the Frieze Art Fair auditorium throughout the duration of the fair.

The artists commissioned to make new work for Frieze Film are: Ed Atkins, Lutz Bacher, Anthea Hamilton, Judith Hopf and Katarina Zdjelar.

The artists commissioned this year present a range of generations, from recent graduate Atkins, whose work was included in New Contemporaries 2010, to Bacher, who has been making film, sculpture and installations since the 70s and has a cult following in the USA. Hopf's influential role as a Professor at the Städelschule in Frankfurt informs her practice, and has made her an influential figure to a number of younger artists.

The 2011 Frieze Film commissions will also be previewed in a new post-watershed Channel 4 arts slot during the week of Frieze Art Fair from Monday 10 October to Friday 14 October. In previous years collaborations between Frieze Film and Channel 4’s ‘3 Minute Wonder’ slot have averaged audiences in excess of one million television viewers.

This year also sees the launch of the Frieze Film touring programme, which brings together a selection of the new short films commissioned by Frieze Foundation since 2005. The commissions have included work by a range of leading contemporary artists, from those who had never worked with film before through to established filmmakers. The programme includes work by Miguel Calderón, Bonnie Camplin, Jess Flood-Paddock, Linder, Shahryar Nashat, Elizabeth Price, Wilhelm Sasnal, Stephen Sutcliffe and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, offering a unique snapshot of contemporary approaches to the moving image.

Frieze Film is presented as part of Frieze Art Fair’s unique curated programme. Frieze Film, together with Frieze Projects and Frieze Talks, is commissioned and produced by Frieze Foundation. Frieze Art Fair takes place 13 – 16 October and is sponsored for the eighth consecutive year by Deutsche Bank.

Ed Atkins (b. 1982) is a British artist based in London. Recent solo projects include: Death Mask, Cabinet, London and Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow; and A Dying Artist, ICA, London (all 2011). Recent group shows include 'Time Again', SculptureCenter, New York (2011); 'A Killer Whale Breaching in Soft Focus' (with Nicolas Deshayes), Transmission Gallery, Glasgow (2010), and 'New Work UK: What it is Not', LUX touring programme, various venues (2010 / 11). Forthcoming projects include a solo Art Now presentation at Tate Britain, London (2011).

Lutz Bacher is a North-American artist based in Berkeley. Recent solo exhibitions include: Cabinet Gallery, London (2011); ‘Do you love me?’, Kunstverein Muenchen, Munich; ‘My Secret Life’, PS.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York (both 2009) and ‘Lutz Bacher: ODO’, Ration 3, San Francisco (2008). Anthea Hamilton (b. 1978) is a British artist based in London. Judith Hopf (b.1969) is a German artist based in Berlin. Katarina Zdjelar (b.1979) is a Serbian artist based in Rotterdam. Recent solo shows and projects include; ‘Katarina Zdjelar-Stepping In-Out’, Centre for Contemporary Art, Celje, Slovenia (2011); Centro de Artes Visuais, Coimbra, Portugal (2010); and ‘But if you take my voice, what will be left to me?’, Serbian Pavilion, The 53rd Venice Biennial (2009).
