World record for a De Chirico "Muse inquietanti" series, brilliant results for Morandi, Savinio and Severini.

MILAN.- Raphaelle Blanga, Sotheby's Sale Director: “Tonight has been confirmed the positive trend of Italian Art Sales in accordance with a highly active market even to the quality/price ratio.”. The small collection Identità Italiana, further to the result for Savinio Savinio La mère et l’enfant has given good results for the Maestri of Novecento, with a particular attention to the still life genre, with a great quality works, fresh to the market; to be note the sale of Natura Morta by Felice Casorati sold at €84.750 and the still life executed in 1922 by Mario Mario Sironi Sironi sold at € 82.250; furthermore Sironi has registered a very good price with his Evocazione Ritmica, sold at €99.150 despite the pre-sale estimate of €50-70.000.

The beautiful Personaggio by Licini Licini dated 1945, from the same private collection, with a presale estimate of €130-180-000 has been sold at €192.750. Great success for Gnoli Gnoli sold at €111.150, a world record for an early work by the artist.

In the Top Ten all the masterpiece of the XX Century have exceeded the estimates of the catalogue.

It should be pointed out also a great interest for sculptures: great prices were reached by artists such as Arnaldo Pomodoro Arnaldo Pomodoro (lot 111 sold at €132.750 and lot 105 sold at €194.750), Melotti (lot 99 sold at €96.750), Uncini Uncini (lot 106 sold at €84.750), Vangi Vangi (lot 63 sold at €144.750), Marino Marini Marino Marini (lot. 36 sold at €96.750), Agenore Fabbri Agenore Fabbri (lot 42 sold at €10.000 euro), e Libero Andreotti Libero Andreotti (lot 29 sold at 29.550).

In the Top Ten, many positions were filled by Lucio Fontana’s works, the artist was at auction with a wide range of works of art and techniques, from water-paint on canvas to ceramic, about this last one it should be noted the magnificent Cappa per Caminetto sold at €186.750.

Coming from the American collection of Dodie Rosenkrans the masterpiece by Gius Giuseppe Santomaso dated 1968 Tensione, has been acquired by a foreign collector for €204.750. Good results for Alighiero Boetti Alighiero Boetti with his Tavola Pitagorica dated 1990 sold at €156.750 with a pre-sale estimate of €40-60.000, and Arazzo executed in 1989 sold at €216.750 to a foreign collector.
