MIAMI, FL.- Art Miami, Miami’s longest running contemporary art fair and anchor fair to the City of Miami, is announcing a continuation of record-breaking sales at the close of Day Three of the Fair. Throughout the day, high profile collectors, museum professionals, curators, connoisseurs and artists engaged with exhibitors and acquired a wide range of superb quality works. Distinguished for its quality, depth and diversity, Art Miami presents an incredible showcase of works from internationally renowned modern and contemporary art from 110 international art galleries.
“Day Three sales continue to surpass those in prior years—many galleries have collectively confirmed that this is the most exciting and vibrant year of sales in our Fair’s history,” said Nick Korniloff, Director of Art Miami. “We are seeing large international crowds and many important American collectors at the fair, demonstrating their desire to invest in the highest quality works at the right prices. There is great enthusiasm on the floor, and we are anticipating sales to continue to soar in the next few days.”

On day three, several galleries reported seeing celebrities and working with notable collectors, museum professionals, curators and artists, including: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas, Marilyn Manson, Alice Walton, Don Bacigalupi, Eli Broad, James Rosenquist, Ted & Barbara Alfon, Sharon Corwin, Ron Dennis, Juan Montoya, Louis Aguirre, George Cohon, Douglas Cohen, Evelyn Tompkins, Carolina Stubbe, Michele Oka Doner, Carola Hinojosa museum officials from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Chrysler Museum of Art, Colby College Art Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum, Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, Norton Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Columbus Museum of Art, Museum Biedermann, Philips Collection, 21c Museum, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and many more.
Friday evening, Art Miami hosted the Florida State Division of Cultural Affairs Cocktail Reception. Guests included Katharine Dickinson, Chairman of the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, Michael Spring, Director of Miami-Dade Country Department of Cultural Affairs, and artist Xavier Cortada.
Additionally, Will Smith, who attended Art Miami on Thursday to visit Claire Oliver Gallery among others, also was spotted in the lobby of the Mandarin Oriental, Miami, enjoying Art Miami’s Asian Art Exhibit.
Highlights from Day Three (Friday) sales included:
• Galerie Forsblom sold Keith Haring’s painted aluminum sculpture, “Untitled” (Self Portrait, 1989) to a private collector for $850,000
• Galleri Andersson/Sandstrom sold the Tony Cragg stainless steal sculpture “Points of View” for $390,000 and another sculpture “Wild Relative” for $82,000 by the same artist
• Hollis Taggart Galleries sold an important Adolph Gottlieb, a study for the stained glass windows at Park Avenue Synagogue for $225,000. The painting has been in a private collection since 1950. They also sold a Mark Tobey painting “Untitled” for $38,000, and a Li Lihong porcelain sculpture “McDonald’s - Flower and Bird” (2008) for $25,000
• Osborne Samuel sold William Turnbull’s bronze sculpture “Small Spade Venus,” for approximately $150,000, Henry Moore’s drawing “Three Reclining Figures/Three Standing Figures” for $100,000, a Lynn Chadwick sculpture for $60,000, and a Sean Henry sculpture for $40,000
• Cernuda Arte sold a Cundo Bermudez painting titled “The Offering” for $30,000, a Wifredo Lam ink on paper titled “Oneiric Bird” (1956) for $13,000, a painting by Vicente Hernandez entitled “A Palm Rises Up” for $12,000, a painting by Dayron Gonzalez entitled “The Last March”, and a David Rodriguez painting entitled “The things you never said to me” for $6,500
• Scott White Contemporary Art sold an untitled Ross Bleckner oil on canvas (2010) for approximately $25,000 and a Claudia Alvarez ceramic and pigment sculpture titled “Girl with Hammer” for about $3,800
• McCormick Gallery/Vallarino Fine Art sold a Hans Hofmann “Untitled” (1962) oil on board for $100,000 and a Robert Natkin mixed media collage “Untitled” for $24,000
• Eli Klein Fine Art sold two of Liu Bolin’s “Dragon Series” (Photographs in 9 Panels) totaling $160,000, five C Prints of Zhang Dali’s “Second History” series totaling $20,000 to an important museum, and 12 of Liu Bolin’s photographs for approximately $24,000
• Galerie Michael Schultz sold an untitled SEO mixed media on canvas work for $90,000, a Bong Chae Son installation piece entitled “Migrants” for $32,000, a Römer+Römer work entitled “Pride in Brighton” for $24,000, and Oliver Dorfer acrylic on acrylic glass piece titled “The cgn-files handcracked illusion 2,” (2010) for $8,700 a KDK C –print titled “sf.C – 1” (2006) for $9,000 and a Bernd Kirschner oil on canvas “Alles Tun zieht im leben seine Kreise” (2011) for $8,300
• Modernism Inc. sold a Jacques Villeglè “Rue du Prè-Saint-Gervais” for $85,000, a second Naomie Kremer’s mixed media “Ketubah” for $30,000 and three Michael Dweck prints totaling $45,000
• Pace Prints sold two John Chamberlain monotypes for a total of $70,000, Sol LeWitt’s “Stars” suite of eight prints for $30,000; a Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh print for $20,000, five Yoshitomo Nara prints for nearly $25,000, and a Donald Baechler work for $10,000
• Sundaram Tagore Gallery sold a Sohan Qadri ink and die on paper titled “Vega II” (2008) for $55,000, a Kim Joon digital print titled “Fragile-Holy Plants” (2010) for $20,000, and a digital print titled by the same artist titled “Golden Hour-Chateau Lafite Rothschild” (2011) for about $9,000 (the edition of five are completely sold out)
• Waterhouse & Dodd sold a Karen Gunderson oil painting for about $40,000 and another Jean Francois Rauzier print, “Palau de la Música”
• William Shearburn Gallery sold a Mel Bochner painting for about $38,000
• Dillon Gallery sold Kumi Yamashita’s carven wooden numbers and light fixture titled “Untitled (child)” for $35,000; Alexander Kaletski’s “Marlboro Man” for $12,000; Michel Tabori’s “Ride the Purple Sage” for $8,000
• Cynthia Corbett Gallery sold Lluis Barba “The Sight and Smell” for $38,000 and Andy Burgess’ “Palm Springs House” for $25,000
• Galerie RX sold an untitled Lee Bae painting at the Art Miami’s Asian Art Exhibit at the Mandarin Oriental, Miami for approximately $32,000
• Contessa Gallery sold three David Drebin digital C prints titled “Jerusalem” (2011) for $25,000, “The Girl in the Black Dress” for $11,900 and “Girl in New York” (2011) for $10,000, respectively. The gallery also sold a Jane Manus welded aluminum sculpture titled “Thank You for the Flowers” for $5,800 (2011)
• Jerald Melberg Gallery sold a Wolf Kahn oil on canvas titled “Pink Sky” (2002) for $25,000 and an untitled Hans Hoffman mixed media on paper (1947) for $16,000
• Ferrin Gallery sold a Sergei Isupov ceramic piece titled “Burning Hot” (2011) for $25,000
• James Barron Art sold James Siena’s “Red Pool” for approximately $20,000
• Westwood Gallery sold a Bryan El Castillo oil and mixed media on canvas titled “Hudson” (2011) for $18,000, two Lucien Clergue photographs titled “Picasso in his studio, Mougins” (1965) for $5,000 each and a Jean Cocteau photograph titled “Testament of Orpheus” (1959) for $3,500
• Aldo de Sousa Gallery sold an untitled Juan Lecuona acrylic on canvas (1998) for $16,000 and a Dolores Casares acrylic and nylon piece titled “Virtual Tower” (2011) for $9,000
• Catharine Clark Gallery sold an Adam Chapman HD digital work titled “Diagram of Chance and Will Intersecting (#1) for $15,000, a Scott Greene painting titled “Adam and Evan” for $15,000, a Chris Doyle two screen animation on a custom built computer titled “Evergrow III” for $12,000, a Travis Somerville pencil on vintage money bag piece for $10,000 to 21c Museum Hotel of Louisville, Kentucky, a piece by Sandow Birk titled “Monument to the Constitution of the United States” for $8,500 and two Stephanie Syjuco pieces for $500 each
• BlueLeaf Gallery sold a series of Marty Kelly works on paper to Southern collectors for $15,000 and an oil on canvas by the same artist for $7,900 to a New York collector
• Denise Bibro Fine Art sold three Jerry Meyer mixed media pieces entitled “Smash Away”, “The Blues”, and “Skyping with the Dead” ranging from $4,500 to $5,200 as well as a Daniel Borlandelli work entitled “Surrounding Area” for $4,000
• David Klein Gallery sold a Tom Wesselmann piece titled “Smoker” (1971) within the six-figure range.
