NEW YORK, NY.- With the US Open underway Sotheby’s announced that it is to offer paintings by two of the leading artists in Argentina to benefit the charity founded by one of tennis’s biggest stars - David Nalbandian. The works will be included in the Latin American Art auction on 16 and 17 November in New York. The Argentine player has had a successful 2010, guiding Argentina through to the Davis Cup semi-finals and winning his 11th ATP World Tour title. He now returns to Flushing Meadow for the US Open, where he reached the semi-finals in 2003 and the quarterfinals in 2005 and where he won the 1998 US Open Junior tournament, beating Roger Federer in the final. The two works to be offered are Sin Título by León Ferrari and Antonio Segui’s Un Angel both of which have been donated by the artists.

Carmen Melian, Head of Latin American Art at Sotheby’s said: “We are thrilled to offer these two paintings to benefit the David Nalbandian Foundation which does wonderful work with disabled children in Argentina. León Ferrari and Antonio Segui are two of Argentina’s leading artists and these are two important recent works. I know I join with the artists and everyone at the David Nalbandian Foundation in wishing David the very best of luck in this years US Open.”

Discussing the sale of the paintings David Nalbandian said: “I am very thankful to the artists who have helped by contributing their works to this cause which will benefit so many people at the new rehabilitation center which is being built in Cordoba, Argentina.”

León Ferrari is one of Argentina’s most important modernist painters who, along with Mira Schendel, was the subject of the 2009 MOMA exhibition Tangled Alphabets. The work on offer is a 2008 ink work entitled Sin Título which draws on the tradition of script as an art form (est. $25/35,000). Antonio Segui has been the subject of numerous exhibitions in Latin America and Europe and his recent work, Un Angel will also be included in the sale (est. $15/20,000).”
