PARIS, FRANCE.- Paris' Bertrand Delanoe gives a conference in Paris 15 December 2004 to annonce the project selected to redesign the area of Les Halles in Paris. French architect David Mangin was chosen today to redesign the historic Les Halles site in Paris city centre, whose 1970s redevelopment is now seen as a prime example of urban blight. Mangin's project -- a garden promenade partly covered by a vast copper roof -- was selected over three other short-listed proposals after several months of deliberations. The site for centuries of the capital's meat and vegetable market, Les Halles was remodelled 30 years ago to house Europe's largest city centre commercial centre and a major underground rail hub.
