COLCHESTER, CT.- Abstract artist Larry Zox, 69, died of cancer at his home in Colchester, Connecticut. He was born on May 31, 1937, in Des Moines. He studied at the University of Oklahoma, Drake University and the Des Moines Art Center, under German artist George Grosz. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship as well as a National Council of the Arts award. He also served as an artist-in-residence at Dartmouth, the University of North Carolina and Yale. During the 1970s artists, boxers, and bikers gathered at his studio on 20th Street in New York. In 1973 the Whitney Museum of American Art featured his works in a retrospective.
