SYDNEY.- ‘Luminaries’ is a new solo exhibition by renowned British artist Pam Glew, and here she will be bringing her own brand of iconic imagery to a surprising Sydney location from May 6, 2010. This will be the first time Glew has exhibited in Australia – her work already features in important collection in Europe, USA and the Far East. The artist has been featured in various Urban Art shows in London, Los Angeles and Paris. ‘Luminaries’ will be her 9th solo exhibition.

Pam Glew is a contemporary artist, best known for her unique method of ingraining imagery onto opulent and richly textured fabrics. She uses dye, stitch, bleach and other removal mediums to paint portraits on material so that the portraits seem to magically emerge from the fabric. Glew will sometimes embellish a piece with stitching and embroidery creating a beautiful and delicate finish to her mesmerizing art work.

In past exhibitions Glew has incorporated her work into antique and vintage US and UK national flags. To celebrate her arrival in the Southern Hemisphere as well as this major solo show in Sydney, Pam Glew will be working for the first time with the Australian flag. This unique collection will be expertly crafted by the artist using vintage denim, stars and stripes and antique red, white and blue linen.

As with past works Glew will be using images of iconic and celebrated individuals within our society. For this 2010 solo show the work will feature the UK’s favorite Australian sisters – Danni and Kylie Minogue. The artist has also taken inspiration from the Australian flag itself, with hints of astronomy and a star lit night sky evident. Each portrait could almost be a film still with an extraordinary luminance which seems to radiate or reflect light.

Bicker Gallery is proud to present this new series of work by PAM GLEW and is pleased to be showcasing her unique painting style to Australia for the first time. Bicker represents artists on a primary basis and looks to nurture grass roots artists locally, giving them exposure internationally.

Dominic Rowswell, the curator behind Bicker Gallery, brings the new phenomena of 'pop-up' shows to Sydney, Australia - drawing on his past experience of setting up such events in temporary venues in the UK. The 'Pop up' show concept allows artists to adapt the interior of an unconventional space for their own purposes giving visitors a unique look at unusual and diverse locations as well as showcasing the artists work without the restrictions of a stale gallery space.

Previous spaces have included deserted shops, a disused underground station, a warehouse and most unusually - a large police station. The venue is kept secret until a couple of weeks prior to the show opening and will bring new life to the chosen location.
